The world stainless association released figures for the first half year of 2024 showing that stainless steel melt shop production increased by 6.3% year–on–year to 30.4 million metric tons.

In Europe and the US, production increased by 0.3%, and 9.0% respectively. China registered a growth of 5.9%. Other Asian countries and other parts of the world combined registered an increase of 9.0% and 10.5% in steel production.

Global stainless steel melt shop production stood at 30.4 mnt in H1CY'24 (Jan-Jun), an increase of 6.3% y-o-y. Output increased by 8% q-o-q to 15.76 mnt in Q2CY'24 against 14.60 mnt in Q1CY'24. China was the largest producer, with 18.75 mnt (against 17.70 mnt in H1CY'23), followed by Asia without China and South Korea, with 3.61 mnt.
